I help things grow.
In the various vocations and locations of my eclectic career, the common trajectory is learning & growth. While teaching 2nd & 3rd graders in eastern Europe, I studied how to develop higher-level thinking and translate information literacy tools.
In Micronesia, I learned the power and value of recorded language to our collective knowledge.
I now make a point to feed my curiosity of learning and language with cultural experiences and a great many books.
This is site is a vulnerable presentation of my journey as a writer. We'll call it an authors' brand, for fun.
Join & follow my adventures in writing. I will share helpful writing tips about grammar, structure, story, plot, literary devices,
motivation, process management, writers’ dimensions of wellness, publishing, marketing, and story prompts. My offerings are the treasures I have worked to learn and gather throughout my writing journey. Presented to other writers, these bits and bobs are what I needed to learn and wished I knew back when.
What if the adventure story had educational value? I realizedhIt was time to dust off the play. Part thought experiment and part escape, I jotted down s that grew into a chapter book. I’m nearing the finish line and thankful for every moment I carved out to move the needle forward.s.
Blog posts of life overseas, content for UNICEF, and rewarding grants filled my writing time. Returning stateside, I spent years developing skills in storytelling, audio visual technology, and learning design. When writing grants, I'm inspired by how
well-chosen words can change the world.
Technical writing took the place of creative writing until my eleventh year of teaching at a Hogwarts themed day camp. I marveled at the students' ability to memorize the lore and incantations of the Harry Potter cannon.
What if the adventure story had educational value? I realized that it was time to dust off the play. Part thought experiment and part escape, I jotted down story seeds that grew into a chapter book. I’m nearing the finish line and thankful for every moment I carved out to move the needle forward.
Before sitting down to write creatively, I plan, arrange, mentally prepare, make a snack, and fight distractions.
I push myself to get at least something written.
Sometimes getting to the page is like grabbing onto a runaway horse, trying to not let it get away. What ever you do, don't get dragged.
I'm learning that when I take good care of myself, my output is more dynamic and free-flowing. That being said, much of my writing is coal at first, and that's okay.
It takes repeated editing and polishing for the gem to shine.
I've been inspired by many works on the process of writing. One of my favorites, "On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft" by Stephen King, is a truly funny and thoughtful autobiography.
My writing goal is to create adventures that engage
the imagination and combine education with wonder.
My creative writing style is an attempt at interpreting a world with sensory richness the reader can taste, a plot that
turns the pages for you, and insights to our shared experiences.
